Sox lose 8-4

The Red Sox need to give Beckett a couple of starts off because he is looking horrible and has lost considerable velocity on his fastball. I am afraid of Hideki Matsui he is a total Red Sox killer. When CC Sabathia had thrown 84 pitches threw the first four innings they should have taken every pitch because that next inning he got out of the inning after just throwing nine pitches and it gave the Yankees momentum. Beckett gave up five home runs last night but that isn't even the worst part he gave up two of those home runs with two out and two strikes on the batter. That should be when Beckett is throwing balls in the dirt not meatballs right down the middle of the plate. The Sox got two of three taken from them so that was very disappointing so all of our hopes go into the wild card from here on out because the Yankees are just playing great baseball and there is nothing anybody can do about it.

Sox win 14-1

How do you like it now AJ Burnett you can't pitch at Fenway Park. You have and era around 15.00 this season at Fenway. What happened to those bats that scored 20 runs last night. Tonight is a guaranteed win Beckett will not let this team lose. CC Sabathia is going to be out of the game in the third inning after giving up 12 runs and the Red Sox are going to be right back in the division race.
It was so great yesterday making the Yankees cry. They stink. My prediction is the Yankees won't even make the playoffs. Junichi Tazawa let two runners on in every inning he pitched and do you know how many runs they got off of Tazawa. The Yankees got no runs off of Tazawa. The Yankees can't hit with runners in scoring position. They are supposed to have the best hitting lineup in all of baseball.
David Ortiz is hotter than any hitter in baseball. He hit another home run yesterday and now has 20 for the season. That's amazing seeing as he hadn't hit a home run going into the middle of may. Youkilis hit two out yesterday which was nice for my fantasy baseball team. As much as I think Jason Varitek is a liability hitting I think he needs to catch Beckett. Varitek only needs to catch Beckett though. He doesn't need to catch anyone else. Also bye bye Brad Penny now that Wakefield is coming back you are going to be designated for assignment. Good luck in the future you just aren't cut out for the Red Sox though.
Here are my final words of the day Lets go Sox, you better kill the Yankees tonight.

I'm just about done

Sorry but this team shows no passion I am almost done. They lost 20-11 at Fenway Park and disgraced the name of baseball in New England. Essentially the Sox have to win today and tomorrow just to have a fighters chance. I believe in them but I don't know if they believe in themselves. At least the bats look good. They should have Beckett go today and tomorrow he will throw 800 pitches but the Sox will save the season. Please I beg you guys win these next two I want to be able to laugh in Yankees fans faces again. PLEASE WIN THESE NEXT TWO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sox win 8-1

What a great series sweep by the Red Sox giving themselves momentum going into this huge series against the Evil Empire. JD Drew hit two home runs last night and went 4 for 4. Lester pitched great and it was just an all around tremendous effort by the Red Sox. The bats need to keep working in this series against the Yankees and if they can take two of three from the Yankees I might break down crying because of their improvement over the last three weeks. The Sox have some awful pitching matchups this weekend but you never know. I don't know why my hopes are so high but I believe the Sox will sweep this series and end up winning the division. If they get swept this series I am not going to blog post ever again. So hopefully this weekend will not be the last time I ever blog because I like my job as a blogger.

Sox win 10-9

I am done with Papelbon and Bard they scare me so much finally the Sox start hitting and the Red Sox pitching staff almost blows it. Papi is hot right now so he needs to stay in the lineup. The good news of the day is that the Sox are back on top in the wild card. Beckett not being able to pitch because Martinez was catching him is a joke.He is an ace he should be able to pitch with any catcher in the big leagues. I hear he is OCD about those kind of things bit he should still be able to hit his spots in a crucial game like last night was. From here on in every game matters. The Sox can't lose another game this year. They have no chance at the Yankees unless they start playing a lot better fast.
Too bad for Bucholz in his last two starts he has gone up against Sabathia and Verlander tonight it doesn't get much easier in Roy Halladay. Bucholz has pitched well in his last two outings. Good luck Sox

Sox lose 13-6

What a disgraceful performance by the hometown team! Can't they at least try? I feel like this team is putting no effort in. If Francona doesn't yell at them for at least 45 minutes before this game I will be mad. Smoltz needs to go back to Detroit and spend some time with the family. They'll bring up Bowden and, hopefully, Wakefield and Daisuke aren't too far away. I am so mad at this team. They should have started a brawl in the 8th after Pedroia got hit. If Beckett with his first pitch of the game doesn't throw at Jeter's head I am not watching this team anymore. Show some heart please just a little emotion is all that I am asking for please. This is going to be a short blog post but all I will say is these three games are going to be the biggest of the season. the season comes down to these next three games.

Sox lose 6-4

Well at least Penny went six innings last night he was horrible but at least he saved the bullpen a little bit. I am so tired of this Red Sox team when they used to have Manny and they were down two in the ninth you thought oh these guys might just be able to win. Now when they are down two in the late innings the game is seemingly over. Drew came in to pinch hit and walked in the ninth to lead off but then they are in trouble because they have the two weakest hitting players in all of baseball coming up next in Varitek and Lowrie. Great job killing a rally guys. The game is over. I know Ortiz is awful pinch hitting and he is awful against lefties but why not throw him out there he is better than Jed Lowrie or the awful Jason Varitek (who I guess still calls a great game even though his three, four and five starters seem to be getting shelled every time they pitch.)
The offense was awful again last night. The Sox need to pick someone up off of the waiver wire and I'll tell you Paul Byrd is not the answer. They have been giving up too many long balls that's the problem. Victor played well again but the rest of the team looked dead. What makes this even better is that Jason Bay had to come out due to hamstring tightness. That is exactly what they need an outfielder to go on the DL when you don't even already have three healthy outfielders. Rocco can't play everyday, Drew is always on the DL in my mind so really you have 1.5 outfielders who are healthy right now. You can't call Reddick up at least for another nine days so I assume they will demote Billy Traber and call up Chris Carter. The best part about this is that the Sox are going into a huge four game set versus the hated evil empire. Tonight Smoltz needs to pitch the game of his life and I believe in him and they need to shell Joba Chamberlain. Come on Sox I hope you rip the Yankees brains out. Really I have never wanted the Red Sox to win so badly. Kick their butts tonight boys make me proud. Go 9-0 vs the evil empire so far. I am predicting nothing right now we will just have to wait and see

Sox lose 4-2 in 13

Before I talk about the game last night sorry for misreporting that Lester wasn't going to pitch last night. He was actually moved up in his start so he could pitch against the Yankees. Once again sorry for misreporting that. Now for the game.
Is there one reason the Red Sox couldn't walk Evan Longoria in the 13th last night. There was no real reason for not walking him Ben Zobrist was batting after him you have to walk him in that situation. I know he was 1-5 on the night but he had hit a bomb off of the Red Sox best reliever earlier in the night Daniel Bard. Jon Lester pitched well last night but still it wasn't enough we need Lester going seven or eight innings each night. What a job by the bullpen escaping the loss in every inning Ram Ram got out of it with the bases loaded and no one out. Also Manny Delcarmen coming in during the eigth inning with the bases loaded and also getting out of it. Thank you to the fan who stopped the Rays from scoring in the eigth because you touched the ball and made it a ground rule double.
Pedroia hit a home run but also grounded into a crucial doule play in the 10th. Not enough offense by the Red Sox once again. I am tired of this they don't get hits in crucial spots anymore. They don't have the big inning that they used to when Manny was here. Bay is awful right now and I think Josh Reddick's greatness as a Red Sox is over. He needs to be benched now. Hopefully the Sox can get a win tonight. Maybe Penny can go into the seventh inning for the first time this year I am so tired of these lame staring pitchers going out there and throwing five innings and then relying on the bullpen to get them there win. I want Penny out there throwing 300 pitches and getting the complete game. They should activate Daisuke just for this start and have him throw 800 pitches and get the complete game. Penny is going up against David Price who is 4-4 but killed the Red SOx in the ALCS last year can they get a win versus the Rays this year they are 4-7 against the Rays this season.

Sox win 18-10

What a game that was, the Red Sox scored 18 runs on 23 hits. Welcome to Boston Victor Martinez going 5 for 6 with 4 RBI's. My new favorite player is Josh Reddick he went 2 for 6 with his first career major league home run. Kevin Youkilis went 3 for 4 and 10 for 12 in the series. His OBP for the series was .8666666 that is unbelievable for an entire series to only get out twice. Now for a downer Clay Bucholz looked awful. I knew they should have traded him. He had a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the third and he gave up six runs that inning thank god the Red Sox offense came back and scored seven runs in the third. I am tired of everyone waiting for Smoltz and Bucholz to turn it on it isn't happening and I don't think Red Sox management understands that either. Someone has to tell Theo you have two guys in your rotation who can't get anyone out. I am glad Bucholz had great stuff in Triple A this year but it didn't translate to the major leagues. They need to trade Bucholz and Lowrie this off season while their stock is still somewhat high.
The bullpen was also a bit shaky yesterday Delcarmen gave up two runs and Ramirez gave up one. Too bad for Ortiz being the only starter not able to get a hit but he had been one of the hottest hitters on the team going into yesterday so he should be able to come out of it tomorrow. Lester has been moved out of his regular spot tomorrow so he can pitch against the Yankees who he has dominated this season. The Red Sox management obviously sees that series as being extremely crucial for The Red Sox to win. Matt Garza is going for The Rays he is the guy who shut the Red Sox down in game 7 of the ALCS last season so let's hope they can beat him up a little bit. The Red Sox have really struggled against the Rays this season so I expect them to sweep this mini two game series. This is a crucial week for The Sox to prove that they are here to stay in the pennant race.
Sorry about no blog yesterday didn't have enough time.

Sox win 6-5

Smoltz pitched horribly last night. Thank god for Ellsbury and his terrific defensive play and also the great night at the plate. The reason Youkilis hit that home run in the 7th was because Guthrie was paying too much attention to Ellsbury on first and not enough about getting his breaking ball over for a strike. Back to Smoltz, every time the Red Sox had a lead last night Smoltz seemed determined to give it back up. Off of the Ortiz home run in the 3rd which made the score 3-0 Sox, Smoltz came back and gave up three in the bottom half of the inning. The Sox took the lead 4-3 and Smoltz came right back and gave Baltimore the lead 5-4 it would have been 6-4 if Ellsbury didn't go banging into the wall to save a home run. Ortiz now looks inspired at the plate to prove everyone wrong about his steroid use. He seems determined to rip the ball every time he gets up. Papelbon had a clean bottom of the 9th inning last night but he still has a lot of trouble striking batters out. He struck out two batters but they kept fighting off pitches. He needs to work in another pitch because all he threw last night was fastballs. I don't know of any major league hitter who can't hit a fastball. It was good to see the bullpen hold down a game. The most underrated play of the game was Okajima's great catch on the ball hit by Matt Wieters. I was sure the game was going to be tied until Okajima just jumped and snagged it right out of the air.

You might have thought yesterday was a great day for the Red Sox trade wise getting Victor Martinez but when I heard they had gotten him with about an hour and a half until the deadline and they hadn't given up Bucholz or Bard I was thinking go after Halladay. I would have been fine with giving up any combination besides Bard. I would have given the Blue Jays the whole farm system except I wouldn't give up Bard. The LaRoche for Kotchman deal was irrelevant they think Kotchman is better in a backup role but he isn't going to get any playing time with Martinez and Youkilis in front of him. What the Red Sox really needed to do was go out and get a decent shortstop. I think Jed Lowrie is awful and I don't understand the hype around him and Nick Green is only a back up. I think they should have gotten a good shortstop like Yunel Escobar he has a .372 OBP and a .435 SLG. We should have given up Lowrie (who most teams still think is a good shortstop but is stock is dropping by the day), Lars Anderson (who isn't as good as everyone thinks and doesn't have good power numbers) and a single A pitching prospect. The only reason the Red Sox didn't get enough is because they didn't get a shortstop but I still think they had a productive day. I would give Theo 4 and 1/2 stars for the job yesterday.

Sox Win 8-5

One thing is for certain David Ortiz did not use Performance Enhancing Drugs I don't care what anyone says. This was a great win for the Red Sox they fought back today down 5-3 in the 7th and end up winning. The clutch play of the day goes to Jack Cust for not being able to see the ball in right field and letting it drop giving the Red Sox hope. Jason Bay then walked setting the stage for Big Papi. He hit the ball deep into the triangle in center field and the ball went out. Daniel Bard mowed down the A's in the top of the 8th than Jonathan Papelbon came in gave up one hit but came out of it unscaved. Papelbon has been getting a lot of two strike counts on hitters but can't seem to strike them out.
Jon Lester looked good early on in the game but really struggled going 5 and two thirds giving up seven hits four earned runs three walks and only two strikeouts. Not a good performance from Lester who the Red Sox need to come up big in these last two months of this season. The bullpen really struggled in this series which isn't good because of how dominating they were in the first half. The Red Sox have to be able to rely on pitchers like Ramon Ramirez, Manny Delcarmen, Takashi Saito and Jonathan Papelbon
David Ortiz's home run in the 7th inning had a lot of rice and beans in it and no PED's. That was like Ortiz slapping the people who leaked that he used PED's in the face and saying I don't need PED's I can hit them just as long and as far as I used to. That must have been such a relief for Ortiz hitting that home run in the first game since that was leaked. At least Yankee fans can't heckle the Red Sox because they have a star of their own who was listed in that report. I would just like to say this whole list should be released. They shouldn't just be singling out some of the superstars. I think this is a joke and Bud Selig should be offended by what is happening right now.
Tomorrow the Red Sox play the last place Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. Pitching for the Sox is John Smoltz who is 1-4 with a 7.04 era he really needs to show something in this next start. He is facing Jeremy Guthrie who is 7-9 with a 5.21 era. The Red Sox need to beat up on the Orioles this weekend.

Sox lose 8-6

Brad Penny has been consistently decent this season but last night he was awful. He gave up five runs in the first inning to one of the worst hitting teams in baseball and also threw 37 pitches in the inning. Penny went 5 innings giving up seven runs on seven hits and he also walked four in the loss. He gave up two home runs including a home run to the first batter of the game Adam Kennedy.
Mike Lowell looked good last night hitting a home run in the first and hitting in five runs. Kevin Youkilis needs a couple of days off he went 0-4 with four strikeouts and has really been struggling lately. Francona should give him today off because it's a day game and then give him tomorrow off also.
Don't blame David Ortiz for not getting a hit in the bottom of the 8th with two runners on. Ortiz this season is awful against lefties and he also has not been a very good pinch hitter in his career. If you want to blame the loss on anyone besides Brad Penny you can blame it that the Red Sox had two on with nobody out in the 9th inning they only squeezed out one run and ended up losing 8-6.
The Red Sox should trade for Victor Martinez. I am convinced that the Red Sox need a bat. They should trade Clay Bucholz and Lars Anderson for Victor Marinez. I am not convinced that Bucholz is a superstar in the making he hasn't pitched well in the major leagues for a long period of time. Lars Anderson I also don't believe is that great of a player he is batting .271 and only has 8 home runs and 48 rbi's. Prospects are meant to be traded away Theo Epstein should stop cherishing all of his prospects and trade them for either Roy Halladay or Victor Martinez.

Why Jonathan Paplebon is no longer dominant

I am sure Jonathan Papelbon is a very nice man but this year he stinks. I am not just saying this because of the blown save last night but all of this year he has been letting runners on base and getting out of the jams based on pure luck. Last night was a different story. He got crushed giving up three hits. You can blame the loss on Nick Green's two errors but Papelbon put them in that situation. He seemed to be throwing harder last night on the NESN gun (which is probably a couple of mph fast) he hit 99 MPH but that's not the point- you can't walk the leadoff batter! That is the biggest error a closer can make. Also, please pay attention to the runners on base. He let Jack Cust who has stolen two bases all season take second base last night. He has me pulling my hair out and finally he blew one. It was just a matter of time after putting all these runners on base. This season he has already walked more batters than he has in his career and his strikeouts are also drastically down. Well so much for bad news. I think Daniel Bard is great. He is dominating. He has been overwhelming major league hitters for the last two months with his 100 MPH fastball. The Red Sox need to put him in some pressure situations before I am completely sold but from what I have seen he is a star in the making.
Here is my proposal if we can't get Roy Halladay we trade Papelbon, Jed Lowrie, and Clay Bucholz for Hanley Ramirez the star shortstop for the Marlins who we traded away to get Josh Beckett. Bard is moved to the closers' role and Ramirez is your starting shortstop. The Marlins' are also in desperate need of a closer so this deal works out for everyone.

Please feel free to comment on the blog and share your personal views about the Red Sox.
